Local Dining Out Report for June 2016

Wednesday 29th June 2016

Local Dining Out Report - The Cliff House Hotel at Barton on Sea

What a lovely evening! We had fifty diners aboard a smart luxury Herrington's coach and made our way to The Cliff House Hotel at Barton on Sea. Having visited last June we had an idea of what to expect. The high standard we experienced last year had in fact improved with the refurbished Sun Room restaurant and a few other minor changes. The rain and cloud held off for the most part and we could just see "The Needles" off the Isle of Wight from our tables. We ordered our drinks which were served at our tables and all the staff were very attentive.

Our main courses arrived after we had settled in and had a little time to drink and chat. Everyone was delighted with their menu choice. Some diners managed to eat a second main course which was available because of last minute cancellations. I chose the "Lamb" option which was shepherds pie in a square dish accompanied by chopped cabbage, carrot, beetroot and onion - very tasty.

Raffle tickets were for sale during a short interval between courses and everyone were very generous. Desserts followed and they were out of this world. Quite a lot of people had chosen the fresh fruit salad with ice cream which I understand was excellent, the vanilla cheeescake with fruit compote looked wonderful and I understand it was equally good tasting, again I had good reports on the sticky toffee pudding. My choice was the cheese and biscuits, which were served on a wooden board with a really nice strong cheddar cheese, celery, grapes, butter and some chutney - delicious.

We were really fortunate with the rafflebecause of our larger party. We had a lovely selection of prizes. A big thank you to the management at The Cliff House Hotel for their donation of a nice bottle of red wine andseveral of our diners donated prizes in addition to a collection of prizes already arranged. After drawing the main raffle we had our usual "lucky number ticket" raffle. This time we had three separate prizes, 2 of Maltesers and 1 of Celebrations.

Suddenly it was 10:15pm and our coach was waiting. We made our way home calling first at Fordingbridge then through Downton to Woodgreen. Everyone had a really good evening. We already have some bookings for our next dinner on Wednesday 20th July when we will be visiting The Ship Inn at Burcombe which is near Wilton. click here for more information.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on this dinner, to Herrington's Coaches for our safe journey, to the management and staff at The Cliff House Hotel for providing the evening and to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle. I am pleased to report that our raffle raised £109.63 towards our target for the ShelterBox making an ongoing total of £475.11 and leaves us £114.89 still to raise.
