Local Dining Out Report for February 2016

Wednesday 25th February 2015

Local Dining Out Group Dinner - at The White Hart at Bishopstone

.

Another extremely enjoyable evening out at the White Hart at Bishopstone. The only small hitch was the coach, our usual coach was in for repair so we had two smaller coaches playing follow-my-leader as we made our pickups along the way. Oh! and not forgetting having to wait for Tim to finish getting out of the bath and dressing. There were several offers of help from people on the coach!

We arrived at The White Hart ahead of time which gave us more space to buy our drinks and choose our tables. As you can see from the pictures all the tables were nicely arranged in the dining area and we were close to the bar.

Wednesday evenings are working out very well with both restaurants so far offering us plenty of space and virtually no other customers near to us. Drinks at the White Hart were reasonably priced and even the wine was good value.

Our dinners started to arrive shortly after 8pm as arranged. Everyone who had made the same choice of main course was served together whichever table they were on. This seems to be the best arrangement from the kitchen and I think a feature we will come to expect. Each plate looked fabulous, the presentation was excellent and we all had plenty to eat. Comments were soon flying around about the dinner with all praise to the chef!
Two people had the vegetarian option which was equally praised.

We had a brief interval after the main course, a chance for further chatting and much banter, plus, of course, more drink. You should have heard the gasps as our desserts started to arrive. Fantastic! Creme Brulee, Cheesecake, Sticky Toffee Pudding and more. Comments the same as for the main course. Some people managed to eat their own dessert, others were soon full up and then there was some sharing and tasting going on. One of two people treated themselves to a coffee to finish.

To finish off the evening we had our usual raffle. We had decided to add any further raffle profit, to the £16.10 made at our January dinner, to make a reasonable donation to charity. By the end of the evening we had a total of almost £50.00 from the two raffles.

We decided to give this money to Pete Skinner to add to his fund for The Dry Fortnight Challenge in aid of Bowel & Cancer Research and Cancer Research UK. This will be presented on Monday evening, 2nd March, at the Hagg?s Dinner. On this occasion we will be adding a further £50.00 from Woodgreen Village News to make it a round £100.00. Our thanks to everyone who has helped to make this possible.

Lastly we must say a big thank you to Greg and his team at The White Hart for making our evening so special. Our food was marvellous, their service and attention to detail was really good. If you fancy a drive out one day please look them up. We will no doubt return!!

On Wednesday March 25th 2015 we will have our next Local Dining Out Dinner. Our coach will pick up through from Fordingbridge, Breamore, Woodgreen, Hale, Woodfalls and through to Downton. We will be going to the Avon Causeway Hotel at Hurn. This is in fact the old Hurn Railway Station. A section of platform and a short stretch of track remain as a backdrop for the Pullman Coach beside the platform. We will be dining in the Pullman Coach on the evening. Everyone at the February Dinner received advance notice of this next dinner and details will be on this website very soon.
