We will be dining at The Shoe Inn, Salisbury Road, Plaitford, Romsey



Situated between Southampton & Salisbury and on the edge of the New Forest, The Shoe Inn has been a resting place for travellers for hundreds of years. The original thatched Inn is believed to date from 1420 and was extended around 1640 to become a posting station for the mail coaches. A tollgate was constructed across the road and the landlord was responsible for collecting the King's tolls on the border between Hampshire and Wiltshire. The last New Forest highwayman was caught drinking in the Inn one night and publicly hanged in the morning. It is said that his ghost remains in the old thatch building, but do not worry it’s in the owner’s accommodation!

Local Dining Out Group Monthly Charity Raffle:

On Wednesday 20th June we will be supporting The Ringwood & Fordingbridge Talking News with the proceeds from our raffle.

This charity is based in Ringwood and supports people in and around Ringwood, Fordingbridge, Ferndown and Verwood. It makes available talking news for local publications such as The Avon Advertiser, Ringwood & Fordingbridge News and The Forest Journal.

We look forward to learning more from Mr Peter Ansell on our dining evening.



Your ticket for our June 2018 dinner will cost £27.00 per person.
(This includes your travel to the restaurant, a Two Course Dinner and tips for our driver and the restaurant staff)

Booking Cut-Off Time

We need to receive your booking, menu choices and payment by early evening on:
Wednesday 13th June 2018
Please try not to leave it until this date as we may be fully booked.


Tickets will be allocated on a first booked and paid basis. Our tickets will be limited to around 30 because of the size of the coach.
It would be a good idea to enquire first before sending your booking/payment the nearer we get to the 13th June 2018
(If tickets remain unsold, later bookings may be accepted depending upon how near we are to the 20th June and whether the restaurant will accept more bookings.)
IMPORTANT: We cannot guarantee any refunds for late cancellations, after the 13th June, unless we have diners on a waiting list
who will not only take the place but also the menu choices you made.

Main Course:

[BEEF] Braised short rib of beef, thyme roasted carrots, mushroom dauphinoise, beef & red currant jus.

[SALMON] Seared salmon fillet, tender stem broccoli, lemon & parsley new potatoes and a hollandaise sauce.

[PORK] Tenderloin of pork, burnt hispi cabbage, rosti potato, apples and a mustard sauce.

[CHICKEN] Butter fried chicken breast, seared pepper & courgette orzo with a garlic and parsley sauce.

[VEGETARIAN] Butternut squash, pine nut & sage quinoa, Pecorino (hard Italian cheese) & land cress salad [V]

[HADDOCK] Beer battered haddock, hand cut chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce


[CRUMBLE] Apple and berry crumble with custard.

[BRULEE] The shoes classic French crème brûlée with homemade short bread.

[CHEESECAKE] Strawberry & vanilla cheese cake with strawberry sorbet.

[TIRAMISU] Tiramisu with blackberries.

[STICKYTOFFEE] Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream.

[CHEESE/BISC] Cheeseboard: served with crackers, grapes and homemade chutney
                           (Wooky Hole Cheddar, Dorset Blue Vinney, Godminister Black Pepper Brie)

Some times and pickup points may be added or removed according to who is coming on the evening.


The above times are estimates. Please try to be at your pickup point 5 minutes before the listed time as we are often ahead of time. Can you please make sure that we have your mobile phone number when booking and that you have your phone with you and switched on once you have left your house. We will make our contact phone number available to you in case of emergency.
