Local Dining Out Group Monthly Charity Raffle:

On Wednesday 18th July we will be supporting Dylan Hansen from Damerham with our monthly raffle.

.I’m 13 years old and have lived in Damerham all my life. I am a past pupil of Western Downlands primary school, and I am a sea scout at 1st Sandleheath. I am one of the 100 scouts from Hampshire chosen to go on a World Scout Jamboree to the Blueridge Mountains in West Virginia in July 2019.
The World Scout Jamboree happens every 4 years and brings scouts from all over the world together see for more information https://ukcontingent.co.uk/jamboree-2019/
On this trip, I will be able to meet tens of thousands of scouts from all over the world and learn about their cultures as well as being able to learn new skills at a purpose built scouting centre.  Going on the World Jamboree will also mean I get to stay with a host family in either America or Canada and experience a Big City – New York or Washington DC.

However, I have to raise .3,590. This will cover all my travel, equipment, food and accommodation, and help another scout in a developing country to go on this amazing experience.
So far as I am off to a great start. I have raised over £2,000 from:

  • Washing cars, piling firewood and other jobs for people around my village.
  • Held bake sales
  • Held a craft fair
  • Done a quiz night
  • Helped out at the Coffee Pot (a pop up café in our village Hall)
  • And climbed Snowdon for sponsorship.

I would be very happy to present my experience to the people who have helped me go and hopefully that may encourage other children to take up scouting, or if they are scouts, participate in such a global camp. The jamboree is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I hope that I can show the people who supported me to see that opportunity.

Kind Regards, Dylan Hansen.
